About Mrs. Baer
I began as a school counselor at Selwyn in 2017 and I am thrilled to work at such a fantastic school. We have such a warm, close community here and the students benefit from that environment every day in their academic, social, and emotional learning.
I was raised outside of Philadelphia and moved to North Carolina to obtain my bachelor's and master's degree from Wake Forest University in Psychology and School Counseling. I have had four years of experience in school counseling in a K-12 independent school. I have worked in other arenas as well, including autism and epilepsy research at University of Michigan and at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu. When I'm not at Selwyn, I love to spend time with my husband, our two children, and our big dog, Ollie! I also enjoy running, reading, playing tennis, listening to live music, and traveling.
I love my job and want every child to feel happy and excited about learning at Selwyn. Monthly, I teach classroom guidance lessons that focus on the character trait of the month. I also address common developmental concerns and how to handle them in my lessons. I provide individual and group counseling sessions that focus on developing healthy coping strategies to address common concerns such as anxiety, conflict resolution, and changes in family structure. In addition, I coordinate the Section 504 process, serve as a McKinney Vento Liaison, and organize community referrals for families in need. I enjoy partnering with parents and teachers to provide individualized support for academic, social, and emotional needs. My goal is to empower students with the tools they need to become kind friends and responsible citizens of Selwyn and our larger community.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or questions. To make an appointment with me or to refer your child, you can call (980-343-5835) or email me ([email protected]). Students can request an appointment with me by filling out a counselor referral card, which are located in all classrooms, or by asking their teachers to see me.
I look forward to working with you!
